UDI - Calgary represents over 170 member companies divided into 3 main membership categories: Developer, Associate, Corresponding (Click for a membership listing). The members of the Institute represent the vast majority of those companies involved in new residential construction in Calgary. This in itself represents a significant level of employment in our city. The Institute's activities focus on promoting wise, efficient and productive urban growth.

Calgary Habitat for Humanity

Why We Chose This Charity
UDI - Calgary has chosen the Habitat for Humanity for their overwhelming support and commitment to affordable housing. We feel their interests best relates to our commitment to providing homes that meet the needs of Calgarians for affordability, quality and innovation.

Building Homes, Building Hope Calgary Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with the community and with the families who will own them. Homes are built almost completely by volunteers using building materials, land and money donated by individuals, businesses, service clubs, foundations and faith communities. Calgary's Habitat for Humanity affiliate was formed in 1988. To date, they have built 84 homes that house 125 adults and 242 children.

Habitat builds houses with (not for) the families who will purchase them. Selected families pay for their homes with no-interest, long-term mortgages. Mortgage payments go into a "Fund for Humanity" and are used to build future Habitat homes.

Calgary Habitat brings hope to low-income families in our community who could otherwise never afford to purchase a home of their own. Habitat homeowners realize significant, long-term benefits as they build up equity through their home ownership. They experience pride in the accomplishments of their own building efforts.
